Code Of Conduct

N/evermore and all STL Jazz Arts events are for everyone of every race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity or presentation, sexual orientation, ability, physical appearance, religion, etc. We do not tolerate harassment of any kind. This includes threatening verbal comments, deliberate intimidation, stalking or following, inappropriate or unwanted physical contact, and any non-consensual sexual attention. Any behaviors, actions, or speech that result in making someone feel unsafe are unwelcome and will not be tolerated.

We expect every person to take ownership of their own actions and language.  If someone lets you know, verbally or non-verbally, that they are feeling uncomfortable, check your behavior, apologize sincerely, and make a change.

Everyone has an absolute right to feel safe and respected. We all work together to create an environment of consent, where we respect each other and each others’ boundaries.

We expect you to use verbal communication when asking someone to dance. Honor a person’s wish not to dance, and accept a “no thank you” gracefully and politely whether at a dance or in a class. Do not give unsolicited advice in classes or on the social dance floor.

Please participate in creating a safe and respectful environment by modeling respectful behavior, and speaking up if you see or hear something that looks or feels wrong. If you observe someone who looks uncomfortable and you feel safe to do so, approach that person and check in with them (“Are you ok?”) and/or alert an event staff member or liaison so that they can help you intervene. Safety is a community-wide effort; let’s look out for each other.

N/evermore is a multifaceted event, open for people to choose their own experiences. Between the panels, discussions, classes, and dance parties, it is an occasion for growth and positive discomfort, as well as fun and connection. It’s ok to take risks and try new things, be loud and silly at the right time and place, joke around, relax and let loose. Before you come to the event, figure out how to do these things in a way that is safe, respectful of others, and contributes to an overall positive, respectful, and safe environment.

The Staff of N/evermore reserves the right to take any action deemed necessary to enforce this policy. Anyone in violation of this code could be subject to verbal warning, be asked to leave the event without refund, and/or, if appropriate, referred to law enforcement officials.

During the event, we will have event staff members, two safety coordinators, and a small group of liaisons to make sure you can easily find someone in person if you have any questions or concerns. Your concerns will be treated professionally and confidentially and we welcome you to talk to us about anything, from simple wayfinding questions to any concerns you may have. You may also contact us anonymously (or include your name/contact info, if you wish) using this form: https://forms.gle/1hrNWLB683U6CAVP7

The Safety Team will be identifiable throughout the weekend with their buttons.

On-Site Safety Coordinators:

Event Directors - Christian Frommelt is available to talk to you about any concerns you may have and can be reached during the event, as well as year round, at info@stljazzarts.org or (314) 323-6854.

Liaisons - volunteer safety team members who will be out and about on the dance floor. They are like the go-go gadget extender arms of the event staff and safety team. They are there to be compassionate listeners to any concerns you may have, to answer questions they can readily answer, and to help you connect to the resources you need (staff members, safety team, etc.). They will be introduced at the dances and will be identifiable by their brightly colored badges.

N/evermore Values

Swing dances like the lindy hop and jazz music have their roots in African American culture and tradition. We believe that it is important to center marginalized voices of Black artists, artists of color, and the LGBTQAI+ community, present and historical. We believe that it is important to openly confront racism, present and historical, and that understanding race and power dynamics is essential to creating a more equitable and loving community, present and future. We believe that Black Lives Matter.

Jazz music and dancing are a part of the fabric of our community and our everyday lives. N/evermore exists symbiotically with the greater St. Louis community of artists, activists, and community-minded entrepreneurs and organizers. We aim to create an environment where we have fun together, and work together towards collective liberation from oppressive societal structures.
